ABOUT US

We’re The Big Bakes – the UK’s highest-rated baking experience – and we’re rising fast! With sites across the country (and more in the oven), we bring joyful, no-experience-needed baking sessions to the nation. But behind every great whisk lies a great spreadsheet – and that’s where you come in.

Our business is growing, and we’re on the hunt for a numbers-savvy Junior Bookkeeper who can help us keep our financial recipes balanced and our accounts perfectly iced.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for someone with a head for numbers and a heart for systems to support our Financial Controller and co-founders. You’ll be the go-to for keeping our ledgers neat, our suppliers sweet, and our cashflow smooth as buttercream.

This role is part-time, freelance, and perfect for someone who wants to grow their experience while working flexibly. You’ll work independently from home but stay well-mixed into the team with regular catch-ups and monthly in-person meetings.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Keep our books beautifully balanced in Xero

  • Reconcile bank accounts and credit card transactions

  • Upload and process receipts/invoices via Hubdoc

  • Make sure everything’s HMRC-compliant for VAT returns

  • Support weekly pay runs and monthly cashflow reports

  • Monitor incoming/outgoing payments and chase overdue invoices

  • Assist with payroll prep and supplier payments

  • Help whip up financial reports and month-end summaries

  • Support our Financial Controller with ad-hoc tasks

  • Meet with the team monthly to stay aligned and sprinkled with context

YOUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS:

  • UK-based and happy to spread your hours Mon–Fri

  • AAT Level 2 (or equivalent) – the cherry on top

  • Experienced with Xero, Hubdoc and Excel

  • Strong attention to detail and a natural flour for finance

  • Organised and proactive

  • Friendly, professional and great at keeping things confidential

  • A real team mixer with great communication skills

  • Able to pop in for monthly meetings in London or Birmingham

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Flexible, remote freelance work

  • Be part of the UK’s most joyful event experience

  • The chance to shape and streamline our financial systems

  • Opportunities to grow with a scaling, values-led brand

  • Monthly in-person catch-ups and plenty of cake-based metaphors

If you know your way around a ledger like we know our way around a piping bag, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Apply now and help us keep things sweet behind the scenes.
