Cake Tree Toppers

Treet your cake to these festive Christmas tree cake toppers. Easy and quick, these Christmas trees are the perfect addition to a homemade or store bought cake that needs a festive touch.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cool Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Special Equipment: piping bag, and baking parchment.

Ingredients:

200g white chocolate

10 mikado sticks

green food colouring

sprinkles of choice

Directions:

  1. On a piece of baking parchment, lay out the mikado sticks with about 10 cm of space between each.

  2. Put the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and microwave at 50% power for 30 seconds. Repeat this step until the chocolate is melted, stirring between each 30 second interval.

  3. Add the green food colouring to the white chocolate and mix until incorporated fully.

  4. Pour the green coloured white chocolate into the piping bag, tie off the top to prevent spilling.

  5. Hold your piping bag with the tip turned up to prevent spilling. Cut a small hole in the tip of the piping bag, you don't want the hole to big or you won't get definition in your tree.

  6. Starting 3 cm from the bottom, not chocolate covered, end of your mikado stick, begin the zig-zag pattern that will make up your tree. Use the green chocolate and zig-zag up to the top of the stick starting wide and ending very narrow at the top of the "tree".

  7. While your green chocolate is still not set, sprinkle over your chosen decoration to add the baubles.

  8. Once all of the trees are finished, place them in the fridge for 10 minutes to set completely, then place them on your cake as desired.

Tips:

  1. You can use any colours for the white chocolate to create a colourful forest for your festive cake.

  2. When piping your trees, try to vary the sizes for a more interesting look on the cake.
