The Big Bakes is the UK’s number one baking event with a mission to become the Home of Baking.

 

With locations in London and Birmingham, we are bringing baking to the nation. Our multi award winning concept is growing to new cities and our business is here to make baking fun, creative and accessible. 


 

JOB SUMMARY:

​

We are looking for individuals with a get go attitude to join our baking team. Individuals must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and be willing to go the extra mile. If you enjoy working within a buzzing and unique environment, baking and learning new skills, then this could be the perfect opportunity for you to embark on. Our business is hugely diverse. As a key part of our event you will be assisting with the duty managers with the daily running and upkeep of the event - overall acting as an all round hero to our business and customers. Team Leaders must be flexible in their working hours and be available to work evenings and weekends. They must also be willing to travel to other venue locations when required. (Which may be required for the opening of future sites)

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

​

  • Assisting the manager with opening and closing 


  • Taking responsibility for welcoming and seeing off customers 


  • Interacting with each station throughout the daily events

  • Supporting and offering creative hints and tips to customers 


  • Supporting junior assistants 

  • Upselling merchandise 

  • Serving and making drinks and light bites 

  • Play a vital role in shift changeovers, ensure that all assistants are clear on their individual roles and support less experienced staff. 

  • Responsible for leading by example and helping to train other members of staff on the job. 

  • Responsible for checking cleanliness during open, changeover and close and stock levels. 


  • Responsible for ensuring the tent is organised, this includes cupboards, shelves and storage units 

  • Assist head baker with customer enquiries/feedback 


  • Regularly provide updates, ideas and feedback

  • Assisting Head Baker with booking and arrival systems 

  • Adhere and maintain all food and health and safety standards


  • Assisting the Head Baker with day to day kitchen duties such as weighing out ingredients and making decorations

  • Maintain high levels of customer service and positive attitude

  • To help with daily cleaning, washing up and shift changeovers

  • To maintain a high standard of presentation throughout the event

  • To meet and greet customers and keep a happy buzz throughout the shift

  • To talk to customers and give them tips throughout the sessions

  • Be creative

  • To be able to keep up energy and positive atmosphere in busy shifts

  • Follow all health and safety regulations

  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness and presentation standards across the event

  • Manage the arrival of customers

  • Greeting customers and hosting them throughout the event

  • Time management of the event and shift changeover

  • Helping to host up to 40 customers in a friendly and fun manner, representing our brand brilliantly

  • Maintaining a clean and beautiful looking environment

  • Responsible for daily cleaning tasks such as washing up and cleaning surfaces and floors

  • The willingness to stand in for other staff at short notice in case of illness etc.


 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

 

  • Monthly attendance at Head Baker meetings

  • Monthly advising and training to Assistants 

  • Monthly reporting/feedback 

  • Daily responsibility for stock levels 

  • Daily accountability for assisting with stock level maintenance and organisation of storage and presentation standards 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLYING/MAINTAINING THE JOB:

 

  • Available to work 4 or more shifts a week 

  • Great attention to detail and creativity 


  • Confidence in speaking with customers on a day to day basis 


  • Previous hospitality experience

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to go above and beyond

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

You will be working at London’s highest rated event in Tooting. The role will require shift work Monday to Sunday. You will need to be comfortable working with large groups of customers. You must be willing to travel to other venue locations in the UK if required (advance notice will be given). 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

The nature of the role is hospitality based,  periods of carrying ingredients and utensils to customers, welcoming and greeting customers across the venue.  Opening hours are between 7am and 11pm and shifts will occur within, and occasionally outside of these times.
